English
Students require a wide range of skills to be successful in English: vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, writing, outlining, brainstorming, editing, researching, and note-taking, among others. While a lot of these skills are taught explicitly in schools, many are not. We find that students often struggle with breaking down the steps of the writing process into manageable components and require support with learning how to navigate long-term assignments. There is also not a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching writing, and at Empowering Scholars we are able to get to know each of our students as individual learners and develop a support plan tailored to their unique needs. We help each of our students build a toolkit of strategies they can use to be more effective with their writing, reading, memorization, and note-taking skills and find more success in English class and beyond.

TESTIMONIAL
“I’ve always been highly impressed by the rigor and cohesion of Eliza’s curriculum work. The units and lessons she designs are intellectual and engaging for her students, and highlight her instructional leadership. That’s just one reason I’ve been so pleased for Eliza to work as a coach with our aspiring teachers at Boston University.”
